  15. here's a strange problem and I was wondering if anyone has encountered
  16. such a thing with a USR Sporster 33.6k (external).

  18. (1) Computer was setup with a USR Sporster 28.8k (external) for both
  19.     windows 95 and linux, and everything works nicely - regular
  20.     dialup connection AND slip connection.
  21.  
  22. (2) Purchased a NEW USR Sporster 33.6k and now connections has some serious
  23.     problems on the same computer.  When I type a single character, it would
  24.     take ages for the response to come back to the screen (a lag in response
  25.     from the modem).  If I restrain the speed to 14400, the lag is
  26.     decreased. If I further decrease the speed to 9600 (using at&NX) the lag
  27.     is further decreased.

  29.     What is going on here?  This happens both in Windows 95 and Linux.
  30.     The settings are default from USR.  This problem is unbearable.

  32.     Also occasionally, the modem will hang up even before the connection
  33.     is established. <-- This is even more bizzare.
